As we have reviewed the SPOT we have become very excited about the SPOT track feature. This feature allows the SPOT owner to set up, and configure a web site for the public to log in (or have open access to) and view the activity from a SPOT device. This is a great tool for families, and friends to check up on an adventurer. What is even more exciting is the possibility of the unit to track search and rescue teams during an operational period. This device would allow a search manager to get an update every 10 minutes with a desecrate way for a team to conduct an "Ops Normal" status check, or to notify the Incident Command staff of a find.
The image that is attached is a screen shot from my units page. I have also set up a page with a log in. If you are interested in viewing the screen do not hesitate to send me an e-mail, and I will give you access.
SPOT track Web site
had a great SAR practice day. Spend a few hours in the class room at Iowa's Fire Service Training Bureau, followed up by a night land navigation exercise. if you log onto my spot page you can see how well the spot tracked my progress through the day.
If you were a SAR manager/coordinator you could have keped tabs on our search team as we processed our area.
